For a sports jersey, 130 to 180 GSM is the useful range. Below 130 the shirt feels thin; above 180 it feels warm. 220 GSM is a T-shirt or hoodie weight, too heavy for playing in Indian weather.
GSM means grams per square metre. Cut a square metre of fabric, weigh it, and that number is its GSM. It tells you how dense the fabric is, which affects warmth, feel and how long the shirt lasts.

Which is better, 180 GSM or 220 GSM?
For a casual T-shirt, 220 GSM feels thicker and more expensive. For a jersey you play in, 180 GSM is better: it is lighter, dries faster and does not trap heat. A 220 GSM shirt soaked with sweat is noticeably heavy by the end of a match.
Higher GSM does not mean better
