A 5 year old usually fits our 5 years size (24 inch chest, 17 inch length), an 8 year old the 8 years size (28 inch chest) and a 12 year old the 12 years size (30 inch chest). From about 13, or a chest over 30 inches, move to adult XS (34 inches).
Parents and coaches usually know a child’s age, not their chest size, so our kids chart is written by age. Ages are a starting point; two children in the same class can easily be two sizes apart.

Why some ages share a chest size
Look at the chest column: 2 and 3 years are both 22 inches, 4 and 5 are 24, 6 and 7 are 26, and 8 and 10 are 28. What changes between them is the length. Children grow taller faster than they grow wider, so the older child in each pair gets a longer jersey with the same chest.
What size fits a 12 year old?
Our 12 years size: a 30 inch chest and a 22 inch length. A tall or broad 12 year old is often more comfortable in adult XS, which has a 34 inch chest. If the child’s chest measures above 30 inches, choose XS.
Should you buy a size up for growth?
One age up is fine for a jersey that has to last a season. Two sizes up and the sleeves reach the elbows and the hem hangs past the shorts, which children do notice on match day.
Mixing kids and adults
Academies and schools often order kids sizes for players and adult sizes for coaches in one design. Every size costs the same. Pages for each age: 5 years, 8 years, 12 years.
