Letter sizes feel universal until you buy from a new brand and the L fits like an M. The letters are only labels; the number underneath is what decides the fit. For jerseys in India that number is usually the chest measurement in inches, which is why a size 40 and a size L can be the same shirt.

Read the chest column first. It is the body chest each size is made for, measured around the fullest part under the arms. Length is measured on the jersey from the top of the shoulder to the hem.
Is L size 40 or 42?
In our chart L is 40. A 42 inch chest is XL. Some shirt brands put 42 under L because they cut a looser fit, so the same body can be an L in one brand and an XL in another. That is why we ask teams to measure rather than copy the size from an old shirt.
Is 42 size XL?
Yes, at Jaypee. A size 42 jersey has a 42 inch (106 cm) chest and a 30 inch length, the same length as L. If you are a tall 42, ask us for extra length when you order.
Is 32 size S or M?
Neither. Our smallest adult size, XS, is 34 inches. A 32 inch chest usually means a teenager or a very slim adult. Our largest kids size, 12 years, is 30 inches, so a 32 inch chest falls between the two; most people in that gap are happier in XS than in a tight kids jersey.
What if you are between two sizes?
Choose the bigger one. A 39 inch chest is an L (40), and a 41 inch chest is an XL (42). Sublimated polyester does not shrink in the wash, so a little room stays a little room. The only exception is kabaddi, where a close fit is safer; there, stay at the smaller size if you are within half an inch.

In centimetres the ladder runs 86, 92, 96, 102, 106, 112, 117 and 122. If you are ordering from outside India, compare your chest in cm against that column. There is a page for every size, for example L size and XL size.
